Battier: LeBron One Of Few All-Stars Who Could Have Played For Duke

Oct 23, 2012 11:31 AM

Shane Battier believes his teammate, LeBron James, could have played within the system at Duke for Mike Krzyzewski had he not gone directly to the NBA.

“You know what? LeBron could have played at Duke, and I don’t say that about a lot of guys,” Battier said. “There are a lot of All-Stars who couldn’t have played at Duke. LeBron is one of the few All-Stars who could have played there and survived.

“You have to be mentally tough. You have to know the game — you can’t be some idiot out there, some dummy running around. You have to play for the team and be selfless. Those are all of LeBron James’ qualities.”

James has played dozens of games for Krzyzewski as part of the United States National Team.

“We have a great relationship,” James said. “We’ve been together since ’05, and our relationship has grown every year. I’ve grown from a young man into a man into a leader of that team. He’s helped me develop that. I give a lot of credit to him.”

Jabari Parker Reveals Final Five Of BYU, Duke, Florida, Michigan State, Stanford

Oct 5, 2012 7:17 PM

Jabari Parker has reduced his list of college choices to BYU, Duke, Florida, Michigan State and Stanford.

Parker in July had revealed a list of 10 schools he was considering, which included DePaul, Georgetown, Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina.

Parker is the top recruit of the 2013 class.

"He thought about it and looked at the programs. That's the five he had," Simeon coach Robert Smith said Friday. "It took him a long time to find. Everyone was really good, but he had to make a decision. He really respected everyone recruiting him and wanted to thank them for their time. He knew he couldn't make everyone happy.

"He's just ready to go out and visit the campuses and get a real feel for the players and the campuses. Him, his family and myself will sit down and see what he comes up with. This is Jabari's decision. We're just making sure he's being guided. I tell him to follow his heart."
